Famous for the natural beauty of its beaches, Saona is a tropical island located a short distance from the mainland. This island of pristine beaches and crystal clear water has been used by film-makers as a 'desert island' setting on a number of occasions.

Part of the government protected nature reserve, Parque Nacional del Este, the seas around the Island are rich in wildlife, with many species of birds and tropical marine fish. In the waters approaching Saona Island, Palmilla Beach is essentially a natural offshore sandbar where you can swim, snorkel and marvel at the numerous indigenous starfish in the waist-deep shallows.
