Casa de Campo Offers Luxury Refuge for Photographer

Ted Gushue, photographer and founder of ERG Media in London was recently in the Dominican Republic working on a business project with Porsche Latin America when travel restrictions began amid the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the globe.

Gushue was working closely in Santo Domingo with Jacinto Peynado, founder and chief executive officer of Porsche Racing. His plans to fly to Colombia for an additional photo shoot were cancelled when flights in and out of the country were temporarily ceased.

With the rest of his business trip abandoned and no flights going home to London, Gushue opted to settle in at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas in La Romana and enjoy a world-class respite at one of the planet’s premier resort destinations.
As the pioneer and most acclaimed of Dominican golf resorts, Casa de Campo offers a 7,000-acre luxury enclave with some of most spectacular golf in the Caribbean including Pete Dye’s masterpiece creation, Teeth of the Dog® . Since opening in 1971, the celebrated layout is widely recognized as the No. 1 course in the region and is continually ranked among the top places to play in the world. The oceanfront holes are astoundingly beautiful, causing Dye to famously quip: “I created 11 holes and God created seven.”

Casa de Campo also boasts two other Dye-designed gems for golfers, Dye Fore and The Links. Additional amenities not to be missed include the Minitas Beach Club, 370-slip Marina & Yacht Club, La Terraza Tennis Center, 245-acre Shooting Club, and Altos de Chavon – an artisan’s village modeled after a 16th century Mediterranean city.
Given all there is to do, it’s not hard to imagine why Gushue wanted to spend the rest of his halted business trip at the seaside oasis.

Not only would he be personally safer there at Casa de Campo, he would also not risk traveling home to family in London and potentially infecting them if he had somehow contacted the virus during his travels. Unfortunately, the resort had just closed its golf courses when he arrived, but he was more than content to enjoy the glorious weather and spend each day running and swimming.

After four days of luxury living for Gushue, Casa de Campo announced it would temporarily close its doors for the protection of its staff and guests through May 31. Gushue finally made his way back to London and has already began planning his return trip. Not only will he finally be able to play golf, but also once again enjoy the resort’s club sandwich (which became his favorite) and try his luck with the sporting clays at the resort’s exceptional Shooting Club.

“Casa de Campo had great food, a great atmosphere, a gorgeous beach, and lucky for me, a lot of old friends who lived in La Romana,” said Gushue of his stay. “The resort was so calm and relaxed, and the staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly, I was so upset I could not stay longer.”
